UNDERLAYS

Carpets still dominate the UK flooring market and consequently there are a huge array of carpet underlays on the market, although surprisingly few manufacturers. The underlay market can be divided into three segments, blown and crumb rubber, wool and hair felt and the new generation lightweight "Advanced Polymer" underlay, dominated by CLOUD 9.

Ball & Young’s Cloud 9 underlays are by far and away our biggest sellers. From the 7mm thick Nimbus through to the 10mm Super Contract, there’s and underlay to suit any location. We also stock three weights of blown rubber underlay from B & Y, London , Madrid & Paris , plus the flat blown rubber underlay, roma, for underfloor heating. For traditionalists there are four types of wool felt underlay from one of the longest established producers, Anglofelt. Please click on one of the logos below for more information:

CLOUD 9 is a totally innovative range of underlays produced by Ball & Young, part of the huge British Vita Group. Unlike any other underlay that has been produced before, it is very lightweight, totally smooth on both sides with exceptional powers of recovery from static loading.

At Pennine we carry three Domestic ranges, Nimbus, Cirrus and Cumulus plus two contract underlays, Silver Lining and Cloud 9 Contract.

NIMBUS	Although only 7mm thick it is still suitable for heavy domestic use, total roll weight only 13kg!
CIRRUS	The most popular of the trio by far. 9mm thick and a roll weight of just 15kg.
CUMULUS	Aimed at the most prestigious end of the market, at 11mm thick it offers totally luxurious feel and still only weighs 18kg.
SILVER LINING	Designed for contract stick down carpet installation work, it has a slightly firmer core to the domestic ranges, giving it a feel more akin to a heavy crumb rubber underlay. Roll weight is 13kg, 6mm thickness.
CONTRACT	Thickness: 8mm. Weight of roll: 20Kg
SUPER CONTRACT	Like Contract and Silver Lining it is designed for stick down installations. 10mm thick it is specifically used in luxury contract locations.
RADIANCE	Only 6mm thick with a low tog rating it is designed to satisfy the needs of ever increasing popularity of underfloor heating.
VITALAY DUO	Out of the same stable as the above but not Cloud 9 branded. This 8mm product is an entry level polymer foam underlay.

	BALL & YOUNG MADRID is a traditional waffle underlay with a roll weight of 85lbs. A good all round underlay for the most domestic locations.
	BALL & YOUNG PARIS is a real heavyweight at 100lb roll weight. Designed to be used with more luxurious domestic carpets.

Anglofelt underlay is manufactured nearby in Whitworth, they are very well known for their wide range of hair and wool felt underlays. We offer four of their products:

ANGLOFELT

42oz, 48oz and 54 oz natural hair felt underlay in 15m² rolls at a very competitive prices.

ANGLOSILVER

is a combination of a crumb rubber layer bonded to a hair & jute felt. Ideally suited to be used with traditional Axminsters and Wiltons.
