ENGINEERED HARDWOOD

Engineered wood planks or wood laminates, (not to be confused with melamine laminate) have been around for quite a few decades now and the popularity of laminate flooring has also given real wood flooring sales a boost. There are many manufacturers of these products, most of them in Europe , and their construction, styles and uses are often very similar.

A 4mm layer of real hardwood veneer is laid in a three strip pattern, or as a single plank, bonded on to a 8mm softwood core with a 2mm balancing base veneer. All three layers are laid at right angles to each other. This ‘ply’ construction makes for a very stable board and is uniform in shape throughout its length. In the three strip ranges the top layer of hardwood veneer is made up of short staves laid end to end throughout the boards length (about 2mtrs.) to produce a random strip effect. In the more expansive single plank ranges a full width veneer runs the whole length of the board. The surface is factory fine sanded (some have a brushed surface), then a lacquer or oiled finish applied so that when the floor is laid, there is no need for on site finishing.

At Pennine Flooring Supplies we carry in stock Haro products.
